Troye Sivan Releases His New Single ‘Got Me Started’: Review, Analysis And Impression

1 years ago By Movies Desk

TROYE SIVAN, the Australian sensation, has returned with a bang. On a recent Wednesday, he dropped his latest single, “Got Me Started,” and it’s anything but ordinary. This track is a daring departure from the ordinary, featuring a captivating visual and a bold sample of “Shooting Stars” by Bag Raiders.

A Dance of Freedom and Self-Discovery

The music video, directed by Gordon von Steiner, takes us on a wild ride. It showcases Sivan strolling through the city, embracing his vulnerability at a bathhouse, and engaging in mesmerizing choreography in unconventional locations. What’s more, he’s joined by a troupe of talented dancers who amplify the song’s energy.

As Sivan croons, “You just got me started/And I don’t think I can stop it/And I don’t wanna go home alone, all right?” it’s evident that this song is more than just music; it’s an anthem of liberation.

The video also pays homage to the vibrant world of drag queens, highlighting their preparation for a show and their spirited dancing alongside Sivan backstage. Throughout the video, Sivan’s journey takes unexpected turns, including answering an old-school phone and even taking flight up the side of a building. It culminates in an electrifying scene where Sivan dons a disco-ball jumpsuit and dances on a helipad.

Speaking about the video’s climax, Sivan shared his thoughts with Zane Lowe on Apple Music One, stating, “There’s this sort of reprise when the synth comes back at the end in the video when I’m like being pulled up the building and there’s this new drum pattern and to me it was perfect.”

The Bold Sampling Choice

Sivan’s journey to creating “Got Me Started” wasn’t without its challenges. He had to persuade Bag Raiders to let him sample their 2011 hit, “Shooting Stars.” This track had recently gained renewed popularity on TikTok, making it a coveted choice for sampling.

Sivan recounted the conversation with Bag Raiders, saying, “It was one of the first songs that we wrote for the album and it just stuck around. They [Bag Raiders] were like, ‘By the way, we’ve had hundreds of requests and we’ve never said ‘yeah,’ so don’t mess this up.’ And I was like, ‘I promise you, I’m going to make a video. It’s going to be sick.’ Like, I really believe in this.”

Interestingly, the decision to use the track came naturally in the studio, and Sivan never imagined that Bag Raiders would grant him access to the song’s stems.

A Journey of Healing and Discovery

“Got Me Started” is the second single from Sivan’s upcoming album, “Something to Give Each Other,” set for release in mid-October. The creative process for this album followed a challenging breakup, an experience that deeply impacted Sivan.

Reflecting on his personal journey, Sivan shared, “I had a lot of friends have that conversation with me when I was going through my breakup and it just felt so mind-blowing to me that they were right. So in a way, I almost want the album to serve as me having that conversation with everyone else as a friend being like, ‘Girl, I promise you.'”

A Stellar Production Team

“Got Me Started” is not just about its captivating visual and daring sample. The song boasts a production dream team, with Ian Kirkpatrick, the mastermind behind Dua Lipa’s hits like “New Rules” and “Don’t Start Now,” at the helm. Additionally, songwriting credits include Leland, Tayla Parx, and Kaelyn Behr.

Sivan’s dedication to his craft and his commitment to maintaining the integrity of the sample shine through. He explained his approach, saying, “It was something that came in the studio naturally. I started seeing the sample laughing because I was like, there’s no way that they’re ever going to let me do this. So while we were in the studio, I texted my A&R from Australia. I’ll never forget the moment I like play, and it just came out so clean completely like solo. And I was like, oh my God. And we put it in and it worked.”

An Exciting Visual Journey

The music video for “Got Me Started” transports viewers to the vibrant streets and clubs of Bangkok, Thailand. Notably, it features cameos from actor and fellow UMG recording artist PP Krit, along with a lineup of drag queens who add a splash of color and charisma to the visuals.

Sivan reunited with the team behind his previous video for “Rush,” including director Gordon von Steiner, cinematographer Stuart Winecoff, and choreographer Sergio Reis. This creative synergy is evident in the video’s dynamic and visually stunning storytelling.

A Triumph of Expression

In conclusion, Troye Sivan’s “Got Me Started” isn’t just a song; it’s a triumph of expression and a testament to the power of music as a means of self-discovery and liberation. With its audacious sampling choice, a stellar production team, and an electrifying music video, Sivan continues to push boundaries and captivate his audience. As he dances through the vibrant streets of Bangkok, he invites us to join him on a journey of freedom and resilience.

This single, along with the forthcoming album “Something to Give Each Other,” promises to be a bold and exciting chapter in Troye Sivan’s artistic journey. Don’t miss out on the exhilarating ride.
