Iñaki Godoy One Piece Live-action Actor Reveals What Was The Most Difficult Scene For Him To Shoot

1 years ago By Movies Desk

If you’ve been binge-watching Netflix’s One Piece, you’ve likely fallen in love with Iñaki Godoy’s portrayal of Monkey D. Luffy. His earnest energy and dedication to the role have won over fans and critics alike. In an exclusive interview with Teen Vogue, the breakout star spilled the beans on the most challenging scene he had to shoot for the series. Hint: it wasn’t an action sequence or the grand finale, but a heartfelt moment that defined Luffy’s character.

A Deep Dive into Luffy’s Dreams

Godoy’s journey into the world of Luffy began with Episode 1, “Romance Dawn,” where we witness Luffy and Koby (played by Morgan Davies) embarking on their adventure by escaping from Alvida’s ship and finding themselves adrift on a lifeboat in the middle of the vast ocean. It’s in this seemingly ordinary setting that Godoy faced his most daunting challenge.

“I think for me, the hardest thing to film… I had this one scene with Koby in a dinghy, where we’re talking about dreams and that he wants to be a Marine,” Godoy confessed. “That scene particularly, it was one of my first scenes that I filmed.” This pivotal moment allowed him to delve deep into Luffy’s core values, setting the tone for his character’s journey throughout the series. The scene also brought to light the contrasting ambitions of the two characters, adding a layer of tension and complexity to their conversation.

A Nuanced Take on Luffy

Luffy is all about dreams, and Godoy knew that getting this scene right was crucial to portraying the character authentically. “This is what the character is all about. And there are a lot of things that I did in that scene at the beginning that I changed,” Godoy shared. He emphasized the importance of rehearsals with his director, acknowledging the evolution of his performance. “But it definitely was a process, getting to that point of, oh, like, there’s this side of Luffy that… he is very kind and nice. He’s not just a ball of energy. He’s a ball of energy who listens.”

Challenges Beyond the Sea

While the scene with Koby posed a significant acting challenge, Godoy also revealed a couple of physically demanding scenes that pushed his boundaries. “I’ve never filmed a scene in the sky. Or when I filmed underwater, that was also really wild,” he confessed with a chuckle. “I would open my eyes, and there would be divers with cameras filming me! And I have to act! Underwater. Oh wow, that was something new! The underwater scene was pretty hard, physically, because the water was freezing. But that was not the hardest scene to film.”

Godoy’s ability to embody Luffy’s sensitivity and sense of adventure shines through in these physically demanding moments, further solidifying his suitability for the iconic role.

One Piece: A Success Story

As Netflix gears up for the highly anticipated Season 2 of One Piece, it’s clear that Iñaki Godoy has left an indelible mark on the series. With his dedication to getting Luffy’s character just right, even in the most challenging of scenes, he has endeared himself to fans worldwide.

In conclusion, the live-action adaptation of One Piece has not only been a success but has also brought forth an actor who understands the essence of the beloved character, Luffy. As we eagerly await the next season, Godoy’s revelations about the challenges he faced behind the scenes only deepen our appreciation for the artistry and passion that goes into making this beloved series a reality.

Don’t miss out on the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew; Season 1 of One Piece is now streaming on Netflix.
