1 years ago By Neil Ross

The Korean drama landscape has been abuzz with the release of “A Time Called You,” a time-traveling love story featuring Ahn Hyo Seop, Jeon Yeo Been, and Kang Hoon in the lead roles. Adapted from the beloved Taiwanese series “Someday Or One Day” by Huang Tienjen, this show has captured the hearts of viewers since its premiere on September 8, 2023. In this article, we will provide an early review, delve into the plot, share our initial impressions, and answer the ultimate question: should you watch “A Time Called You”?

A Time Called You: Unveiling the Plot

The storyline of “A Time Called You” revolves around Han Junhee, a woman living in 2023, who is grieving the loss of her boyfriend, Gu Yeonjun. Her life takes an inexplicable turn when she suddenly finds herself transported back to the year 1998, inhabiting the body of Kwon Minju, an 18-year-old high school student. Here, she encounters Nam Siheon, a young man bearing a striking resemblance to her supposedly deceased boyfriend. To further complicate matters, Jung Ingyu, a boy harboring feelings for Kwon Minju, enters the picture.

Initial Impressions of “A Time Called You”

Stepping into the shoes of a well-loved storyline is never an easy task, but “A Time Called You” manages to make a distinct mark. From the very beginning, the show draws viewers in with its visually differentiated presentation of the past and present timelines, enriched with appealing color palettes. As the narrative unfolds, the subtle nuances in Han Junhee’s transformation into Kwon Minju add depth to the storyline. While navigating the duality of Jeon Yeo Been’s double roles as both an adult and a high schooler may pose a challenge, the plot continuously thickens, ensuring that viewers remain engrossed.

Should You Tune In?

Ahn Hyo Seop, who has been on a successful streak in recent years, delivers a compelling performance as Nam Siheon, effortlessly transitioning between his two personas – the easygoing present-day Siheon and the anxious Gu Yeonjun. Jeon Yeo Been, on the other hand, skillfully navigates the complexities of her dual characters, unaware of the affections of Kang Hoon’s Jung Ingyu.

Fans of the original Taiwanese series, “Someday Or One Day,” are in for a treat as they can relish the nostalgic comparisons while savoring the fresh twists in “A Time Called You.” For those new to the story, this Korean adaptation offers an unexpectedly intriguing narrative. With a concise 12-episode runtime, it’s an ideal weekend binge-watch for romance enthusiasts.

Episode 7 Recap: The Time-Traveling Boy

Episode 7 of “A Time Called You” kicks off with Minju witnessing Siheon’s confession from the mental cave. Junhee, however, avoids Siheon and joins Ingyu in seeking information about the mysterious photos. She attempts to console Ingyu, urging him not to pity himself and encouraging him to pursue his own romantic interests.

Amid the complexities of the love triangle, Junhee eventually reaches out to Siheon, revealing the truth about herself. Siheon, initially serious, playfully spins a fictional tale of time-travel akin to the plot of “Terminator.” The banter between Ingyu and Siheon ensues, focused on Siheon’s supposed mission.

Later, Junhee informs them about Minju’s murder, prompting a shift in the atmosphere. However, they deduce that she might be fabricating the story to reconcile them. Nevertheless, the boys rekindle their friendship.

Trouble brews when Junhee overhears rumors that suggest Minju killed Da-hyeon due to compromising photos. Shocked and indignant, Junhee confronts the rumor-mongers. Siheon arrives late but is deeply affected upon learning that a girl from their class has died. As the trio leaves, an observant cop is left troubled by their interactions.

Gathering at Siheon’s place, Junhee speculates about Da-hyeon’s murder, suggesting it might be the work of someone seeking revenge on her behalf. However, Ingyu believes that the culprit is the same individual responsible for the previous attack on Minju. Tensions rise as they discuss their feelings for Minju, ultimately reaffirming their friendship.

Final Thoughts

In “A Time Called You,” Junhee continues to navigate the complexities of her relationships with the two boys, Siheon and Ingyu. Episode 7 brings fresh mysteries and revelations, including a shocking twist related to Siheon’s true identity and the events surrounding Minju’s murder.

As the series unfolds, the web of time-travel and romance grows more intricate, leaving viewers eagerly awaiting each new episode. “A Time Called You” promises to be a captivating journey through love, mystery, and the complexities of time itself.
